Mount K2 or Godwin Austen the 2nd highest peak of the world
Mount K2 is the second highest peak in the world After Mount Everest. Mount Godwin Austen is at an altitude of 8612m and this snow covered mountain originates from the Godwin Austen Glacier, a tributary of Baltoro located on the border of Pakistan and Tibet, China. Second hoghest Mountain of thw world located in the Karakoram Range Himalaya.
This mountain range is situated partly in Xinjiang of China and partly in Gilgit – Baltistan of Pakistan. This is the highest mountain in Pakistan and among the most prominent mountains of the world; Mount Ketu/Kechu is at the 22nd place.
The Italian mountaineers Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli made the first ascend to Mount K2 in the year 1954. K2 was also named Mount Godwin Austen after the British surveyor Haversham Godwin Austen who ascended 1000m and determined the approximate height and position of this peak.
Mount Qogir has other names also such as Chogori, Oogir and Kechu. Due to the extreme difficulty of ascent and severe weather conditions, Godwin Austen is also known as “The Savage Mountain.” June to August is the ideal time for climbing this peak.
