The first published height of the Mount Everest was made in 1856 and was established by the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India. Mount Everest was then referred as Peak XV. Before the official ascent of this mountain by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary (1953), one year prior to this, a height of 8595 was reached by Tenzing. George Finch and Captain C. Geoffrey Bruce were the first ones to climb the 8000 meters of Mount Everest in year 1922.
The first female to ascent the Mount Everest is Junko Tabei in 1975. Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler made first ascent to the Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen in 1978.
