History of Tibet
Till 20th century, Tibet was a thriving independent kingdom. In 1903, the British took control of Tibet by force. As per a treaty in the year 1906, the British gave Tibet to China. After 5 years the Tibetans expelled Chinese from their country and remained independent till 1950. In 1950 China invaded Tibet and expelled their leader Dalai Lama who fled to India.
Tibet remained under the complete control of China. In 1965, the Chinese government declared Tibet as the Autonomous Region of Tibet. In 1988, martial law was imposed upon Tibet. During recent years China has encouraged trade and tourism in Tibet.

Life in Tibet and Lhasa
