Ama Dablam was first climbed on 13 March 1961 by Mike Gill (NZ), Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Ward (UK) and Wally Romanes (NZ) via the Southwest Ridge.

Ama dablam expedition is the technically difficult expedition; climbers need to have good skills on rock climbing, ice climbing and technically competent. Normally, three camps are set in the approach above the base camp (4,570m), however, only two camps are used to spend the night. The normal route for climbing is South-West Ridge. Best climbing months are April to May in spring season and September to October in autumn season.

Ama dablam expedition itinerary

Day 01: Welcome to Nepal; upon your arrival at Nepal our representative welcome and assists to transfer hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing and preparation for Ama Dablam expedition.

Day 03: Official works  and Briefing in Ministry of Tourism in Nepal.

Day 04: Flight to Lukla then trek to Phakding (2640m).

Day 05: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazar (3446m).

Day 06: Rest at Namch for Acclimatization hike to Everest view point

Day 07: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3867m).

Day 08: Trek from Tengboche to Ama dablam Base Camp.

Day 24: Climbing period of Mount Ama Dablam.

Day 25: Trek from base camp to Tengboche Monastery.

Day 26: Trek from Tengboche to Namche Bazaar.

Day 27: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla.

Day 28: Flight back from Lukla to Kathmandu.
