Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is a protected area established in 1997. It covers 2,035 sqkm (786 sq mi) in the Taplejung District, bordering the Tibet autonomous region (China) in the north, Sikkim in the east and Sankhuwasabha District in the west. The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area has a rich cultural heritage. In this place one will come across with many different ethnic groups. The numerous temples, monasteries, prayer-walls and chortens in this place symbolize its cultural heritage. The local people carry out agriculture, pastoralism and trade. There are about 11 ethnic communities living in KCA. They include Limbu, Sherpa, Chhetris, Rais and Brahmins.
