Mount Kanchenjunga third highest mountain in the world
Mount Kanchenjunga with an altitude of 8586m is the 3rd highest peak in the world and the second highest peak in Nepal. It is one of the 14 mountains on Earth that are more than 8,000 meters high above sea level. It is a part of Eastern Himalayas and is located along the Nepal-Sikkim border about 20 kilometers South of Tibet. 
April to October is the ideal time for Kanchenjunga trekking. Kanchenjunga has five summits – Main, West, Central, South and Kangbachen. Except Kangbachen, all the summits are above 8000m. Kanchenjunga main is the highest summit and is located in Taplejung, Nepal. It was first attempted in 1905, but four members of those international parties were killed in an avalanche.
The first ascent was made in the year 1955 by British climbers Joe Brown and George Band. The Kanchenjunga summit is considered as sacred and the ascend stop just below the summit to ensure that the holy summit is not touched by human feet.

KCA boasts varied of ecological zones, from the subtropical land to glacial wilderness. Mighty Kanchenjunga glacier is the most famous. There are many satellite peaks along the ridges of 3rd highest peak in the Himalayas. Sir John Hunt who ascended this peak along with Sir Edmund Hillary reported that this mountain is more difficult to climb than Mount Everest.
Trek to this region is one of the best, exciting and challenging Himalayan treks. The trekkers enjoy the lush green natural beauty of this place. This trek is in Eastern Nepal and the highest altitude of this trek is 4560m. The trip to the Yalung Glacier and over the Lapsang La and the difficult path back to Taplejung make this trek a memorable experience.
Several times during the trekking, the climbers may exceed the 4000m mark and hence they take various precautions against high altitude sickness. The name “Kanchenjunga” means “Five Treasures” since it has five summits. It is believed that the 5 summits represent the five repositories of God – gold, silver, gems, grain and holy books.
The Conservation area is a project of the World Wildlife Fund. The Government of Nepal is also associated with the project.
