Lower Dolpo trek is a charming as well as exciting trip. The visitors get surprised when they see their very primitive way of living. The rarely found Pre-Buddhist Bon Po religion still exists in this place. Another exciting feature of Lower dolpo trek is that its trail goes over three high passes – Kagmara La (5115m), Baga La (5090m) and Numa La (5360m).

Lowe dolpo trail goes by the side of the spectacular Phoksundo Lake. While returning, the trekkers take the Tarap Khola path on the gorge side that concludes at Juphal. Trekking in lower dolpa or Karnali region open for hiking since 1982 for foreigner travelers, it is a wonderful trekking area of mid-western Nepal.

Trekkers get the opportunity to view the snowy mountains, ancient remote villages like Tarakot, Tarap, Dho varieties of wildlife, enchanting lakes and the Buddhist monasteries. Lower dolpo trekking consist a home of herbal land, unspoiled culture and Buddhist monuments.

Lower dolpa trek region is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, dense forests lower Dolpo is one among the natural hidden wonders in the world. Lower Dolpo trek is ideal for those who are ready for walking through the remotes places of Nepal and also for the visitors who do not have much time at their disposal.

According to the legend, this hidden valley was created by Guru Rimpoche for the Buddhists to take refuge when they are in trouble. The trekkers get excited when they see the isolated ancient villages, the snowy peaks, variety of wildlife, the picturesque lakes and the beautiful Buddhist monasteries.

Among the various isolated valleys of the Himalayas in the northern part of Nepal, the Dolpo region is well known. This isolated Himalayan valley resembles to the Tibetan highland. This place is a rain shadow region of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and hence here trekking is possible even during the monsoon season.

From Kathmandu city the trekkers go to the town of Nepalgunj either by road or by air. From Nepalgunj they take a short flight to Juphal. Juphal airstrip is the starting point of dolpo trek. April to October is the ideal time for this trip and those who want to take lower dolpo trek must be physically fit and high altitude experience.

It is risky to take this trek in November when the passes will be covered with thick snow.  Those who take the Lower Dolpo trek will have one of the most exciting experiences of their lifetime.

Lower dolpo trek itinerary

Day 01: Arrival day in Nepal our representative welcome and assists to transfer hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu city tours and preparation for Lower dolpo trek.

Day 03: Flight from Katmandu to Nepalgunj and transfer to hotel.

Day 04: Early morning, fly to Jumla and trek to Ghotichour (2700m).

Day 05: Trek from Ghotichaur to Chutra (2856 m).

Day 06: Trek from Chutra to Chaurikot (3000 m).

Day 07: Trek from Chaurighot to Kaigaun (3245m).

Day 08: Trek from Kaigaun to Garpung Khola (3285m).

Day 09: Trek from Garpung Khola to Kagmara phedi (4645m).

Day 10: Trek Phedi – Cross Kagmara (5115 m) to Pungmi Kharka.

Day 11: Trek from Pungmi Kharka to Phoksumdo Lake (3600m).

Day 12: Rest at Phoksumdo Lake and excursion.

Day 13: Phoksumdo Lake via Baga –la cross to Baga-La Phedi forest camp.

Day 14: Trek from Baga-La forest camp to Numla Phedi (4535m).

Day 15: Trek Numla Phedi – Cross Numla (5190m) trek to Tarap (4040m).

Day 16: Trek from Tarap to Dho (4020m).

Day 17: Trek from Dho to Big cave (3600m).

Day 18: Trek from Big cave to Lahini (3200m).

Day 19: Trek from Lahini to Tarakot (2800m).

Day 20: Trek from Tarakot to Dunai (2150m).

Day 21: Trek from Dunai to Juphal (2500m).

Day 22: Flight to Nepalgunj then transfer to hotel.

Day 23: Flight to Katmandu, evening farewell dinner.
