Upper dolpo trek is remote, hidden and controlled trekking destination, where Nepal’s most tranquil and natural beauty is still unexplored. Upper dolpo trek crosses the three high passes of this region, Kagmara La, Baga La, Numa La. Dolpa region located behind the Dhaulagiri massif, towards the Tibet inside the Shey Phoksundo National Park in mid western Nepal.

Trekkers climb mountains, go through high passes, and explore river valleys. The Dolpo, scarcely visited by foreigners, is a beautiful wild land sandwiched between the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau geographically; it might be seen as a part of Tibet. It is home to a Tibetan people, who eke their existence out on this frozen, arid country herding yaks and trading in barley and rock salt.

Dolpa is a most isolated and least developed district of Nepal but unique to explore the Himalayan Shangri-La. You’ll also have a chance to get to know the Dolpo people and observe their culture. If you have time and physically fitness for trekking, don’t miss the opportunity to trekking in Upper Dolpo, it requires previous high altitude walking experience with best physical condition.

It’s a good idea to do regular jogging or running and an exercise program for at least two or three months before your scheduled expedition. Upper Dolpo trek enriched with the Tibetan cultural heritage, Shay Monastery, Kanjiroba peak, Phoksundo Lake, Dhaulagiri massif and verity of rare flora and fauna are the highlight of this area. Dolpo was opened for trekking since 1990 for foreigners, single trekking is not allowed, group trek is recommended.

Tea house facility is not available all trip to Dolpa organize in camping basic. It’s not an easy trek, and the high altitude will make the physical exertion seem more than it is, so make sure you’re physically fit before attempting the this trek.

The Dolpo region, Shey Phoksundo National Park is Nepal’s largest national park, with 3,500 square kilometers of wild land. If you’re lucky you might see a snow leopard here, during the trek you will see plenty of musk deer, Himalayan blue sheep, mountain goat, leopards, verities birds and plants.

This region is remote from the capital, and your arrival will be staged in two flights. From Kathmandu, where you’ll get acclimatized to Nepal and make your last trek preparations, you’ll fly to the town of Nepalgunj. After an overnight there, again forty five minute flight to Juphal, so you get there fairly early in the morning and that same day you’ll be able to trek on to Dunai.

The best month of the year to make this trek is June, July and August but Adventure lover can make Upper Dolpo trek in spring autumn too, It’ll still be cold, especially at night, so make sure you pack a down jacket and have a four-season sleeping bag. Special permit required to trekking in dolpa it is lifetime experience because this region is hard to match its beauty, natural picture of high places and stunning charm.
