Simikot to limi valley trek in Humla
Limi valley trek is opened for trekking since 2002 for foreigners, Limi valley is far west of Nepal and close to the Tibet border north of Humla district. Here one can find the traditional culture of Tibet. The Limi valley trek is a strenuous trek and the trekkers have to cross two high passes.
There are ancient monasteries on the way. One can find diverse culture, wildlife and landscape along the circuit around Chyoro Ri. They also have the opportunity to meet the village people of Upper Humla who are very cordial as well as welcoming. The Limi valley trek starts from Simikot which is near the Karnali River. Up to the first high pass, travelers enjoy spectacular mountain views.
Nara La is the first high pass at a height of 4500m. From Nara La the trekkers proceed in the north east direction and reach Limi valley. To protect the fragile ecosystem of the high country, government of Nepal issues the limited number of permits to enter this valley.
At Limi valley trek, the tourists can see the beautiful stone villages of Til, Hilga and Jang. About 500 people live in Hilga village. The picturesque mountains create a perfect backdrop. On the way the trekkers can view the Rizing Ling Gompa more than 1000 years old. From Limi valley the trekkers climb the second high pass Nyalu La.
From Nyalu La tourists enjoy breathe taking views of Mount Kailash, the most holy mountain in Tibet. As the last part of the trek, the tourists descend to the Selima Tso Lake and go back to Simikot via Kermi. Here the trekkers go through the Karnali gorge enjoying the beauty of the pine forests. From Kathmandu the tourists take the flight to Simikot, treks start and end at Simikot the salt trading and pilgrimage route.
Limi valley trekking of the Trans Himalayan region is very wide, exciting and awe inspiring. Entering the rarely visited and mystic Limi valley Himalayas seems like stepping back in time. Due to the isolated location, most of the villages are untouched and pure. The trekking up to Gayuo kharka is a very great experience.
From this place one can get spectacular views of Saipal, Byas Rishi, API, Kanjirowa, Kanti, Mt. Kailash and Gorlamdanda. Limi valley trek is known for its exclusive flora and fauna. Here one can find wild yak, blue sheep, wolf, marmot, kyang, barking deer, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, snow leopard and hare.
The local people here speak in Tibetan language and have the Tibetan culture and traditions. In Limi Khola there are very beautiful villages like Halji and Gombayok. Best season for Limi valley trek are February to May and August to December, trekking can be organize on camping basic only. Stunning landscapes, ranging from green pastures with below the wild flowing river to barren rocks, similar to Tibet provides is really different experience.
