Rara lake trek to Jumla
New Rara Lake trek is a popular trekking route in dolpa region Western Nepal. Rara National Park is one of the finest national parks in the world. The coniferous forest of this park is a comfortable habitat for musk deer, Himalayan Black Bear and other wildlife species. Danfe, the national bird of Nepal can be seen in this park.
The Rara Lake has also variety of fish and snow turtle. The Rara Lake is the centerpiece of the Rara National Park. The Trans Himalayan valley with forests and alpine meadows is also a part of the National Park. Rara Lake is the biggest lake in Nepal and it is in the Karnali zone situated at an altitude of 2990m, lake covers an area of 10.8 sq km.
The Rara Lake is 5 km long and 3 km wide. The maximum depth of this lake is 167m. Wilderness and isolation travel destination Karnali, Jumla and Rara Lake are still comparatively unexplored and provide the glimpses of typical villages’ cultures and their rustic way of life.
The trekkers take the flight from Kathmandu to Jumla via Nepalgunj and from Jumla they proceed to Rara Lake. Rara lake trail passes through green countryside which provides unusual glimpses of culture and scenery really different from that found elsewhere in Nepal.
Sinja valleys, highest human settlement of the world are major attraction of this trip. Trekkers enjoy the views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Rara lake trek is one of the best trekking trips in western Nepal. This is an off the beaten path trail with a lot of different natural scenes.
The trekkers reach the banks of this magnificent lake after trekking through the mountain paths and passing through various picturesque villages. The lake as well as surrounding forest is beautiful and calm, it is a favorite destination of bird watchers. The lower and upper routes of the Great Himalaya trail make cross roads at Rara Lake.
From this Lake the trekkers can proceed further either to Humla through the ancient salt route or any of the adventurous routes to nearby Dolpa. This trekking trip offers scenery and culture that are quite different from the other treks in Nepal.
The Rara Lake trek surrounded with beautiful forests of pine, spruce, juniper and host verity of unique flora and fauna. This park has 1074 different species of flora, 51 species of mammals and 214 species of birds. The majority of the local people are agriculturists.
They also rear goats and extract medicinal herbs and plants sell them. Thakuri is the prominent community here. The Thakuri Baba Temple is in the south east corner of the Rara Lake trek. September to October and April to May are the best the best months of the year for this moderate trek; good health and physical condition enough.
